Listening and Language Can Bridge Cultural Divides, Says Visiting Scholar Lecture Guest Karla Scott

Listening and Language Can Bridge Cultural Divides, Says Visiting Scholar Lecture Guest Karla Scott

Talks/Lectures
In conjunction with Rockhurst’s Diversity and Inclusiveness Committee, the Visiting Scholar Lecture Series will present Karla Scott, Ph.D., for “An Ignatian Pedagogical Approach to Dialogue and Civil Discourse” at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, in Arrupe Hall auditorium. Scott, an associate professor of communication, dean of diversity and inclusion at Saint Louis University and author of The Language of Strong Womanhood: Myths, Models, Messages, and a New Mandate for Self- Care (Lexington Press, 2017), will address how the Jesuit approach to spirituality can better inform the way we communicate with one another and bridge social boundaries. She will also discuss how our words and, most importantly, our ears can narrow the divisions between race, class, ethnicity, gender and sexuality. To register your attendance to this free lecture, call 816-501-4828. Free parking is available in the garage on 52nd Street and Troost Avenue or in campus lots accessed through the University’s entrance at 54th Street and Troost Avenue. See rockhurst.edu/map.
