How does a museum collection begin? Where do you start? How do you continue? How do you determine what should/shouldn’t become a part of a collection? Can a collection ever become complete? That National WWI Museum and Memorial started amassing objects and documents from the First World War in 1920 and has continually addressed these questions ever since. 100 Years of Collecting - Art provides the opportunity to view diverse works collected in the past century from across the world and is presented in conjunction with 100 Years of Collecting in Exhibit Hall.

The annual event will ignite your senses. Smell burning gun powder along with savory meals prepared using historic techniques and ingredients. Take in the sights and sounds of officers barking commands and fire the occasional shot of the cannon, authentically attired interpreters drill, play military music and bring the past to life.

Adam Pajan in Recital
The Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists invites you to join them when they present Dr. Adam Pajan in concert. He will play his program on the Temple’s historic EM Skinner organ, Opus 190. Adam is currently on the faculty of the University of Oklahoma teaching applied organ, church music, and organ technology. He is also Artist in Residence at Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Tulsa and he serves as Director of Music at Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Norman. He received his DMA in 2014 at the University of Oklahoma following studies at Furman University and Yale University. He has been a prize winner in multiple prestigious organ competitions, including first place awards at the Albert Schweitzer, Poister, Mader, and West Chester University organ competitions. adampajan.com Adam’s program will include, among others, Mozart’s Adagio and Allegro in F-minor, several Gershwin piano preludes (transcribed for organ by Dr. Pajan), and Mendelssohn’s Sonata I in F-Minor.

Black Violin
Kev Marcus (violin) and Wil Baptiste (viola) are Black Violin, two classically trained musicians who, along with their DJ TK, have created the ultimate synergy between classical and hip-hop music and with it an incredible opportunity to reach children. Kev Marcus and Wil b, both graduates of Dillard Performing Arts High School, used their musical talents to earn full scholarships to college. Now Black Violin wants to make sure that young people get the same exposure to the arts and opportunity that they did. Performing and touring with P. Diddy, Kanye West, Fifty Cent, Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, the Eagles and more, Black Violin has committed themselves for the next few years to give back and teach children that classical music is cool.

Brew to Brew Relay Fall
The race start is at Stockyards Brewing Company, 1600 Genessee St. Kansas City MO 64102. Start times are staggered every 10 minutes from 6:00 to 8:30 a.m. Race ends at Hyvee Arena 1800 Genessee St, Kansas City, MO 64102 Brew to Brew is a 44-ish mile solo or relay race divided into ten legs of about 4 miles each with runners traversing roads and trails from downtown Kansas City, Missouri and back to a party. Brew to Brew benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Every runner donates a minimum of $10 included in the registration.
